about

Probably the funkiest, most groove-heavy instrumental track on Ultraviolet’s soon-to-be-released Ripples & Waves album, Nectar’s starting point was a sweet and sticky bass line. Over time, and through many colourful jam sessions, more ideas emerged and a full, multi-part story began to unfold.

An experimental approach to the typical power trio format, this track features drum kit, bass guitar, and Touch Guitars’ U10 (touch-style instrument), plus some tasty analogue effects.

The first half of Nectar simmers with hard-hitting, Afrobeat-inspired flavours until the energy shifts and eventually settles into a downtempo, deeper domain of funk, with chill vibes and trippy wanderings.

Nectar was recorded live, off-the-floor, at Dove Creek Studios (Vancouver Island). Three musicians. One room. One take.

While some compositional structure was already in place heading into the studio, a spirit of creative exploration and collaborative connection between the musicians allowed for a good deal of co-creating to take place in-the-moment. That sense of connection and energy of being fully ‘in the moment’ is evident throughout the recording.
